In addition to providing much-valued support to meetings that provide the wwPDB guidance, such as the Advisory Committee and the Ligand Validation Workshop, the wwPDB Foundation organizes events and activities:
Latin American Crystallographic Association: The wwPDB Foundation made awards to Francisco Patrick Ferreira da Silva (Federal University of Ceará, Brazil) for Three-dimensional structure of Bacillus subtilis L-asparaginase type II and to Miguel Arbeláez (University of São Paulo and National University of Colombia) for Structural Determination of Human Dihydroorotate Dehydrogenase in Complex with Antiviral Compounds
The Protein Society: The wwPDB Foundation made an award to Emily Schaffter (Clark University) for Differential Interactions between Calmodulin and the IQ Motifs of the HECT E3 Ubiquitin Ligases UBE3B and UBE3C
The inaugural event sponsored by the wwPDB Foundation was the a unique meeting was held at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the PDB in 2011. PDB40's distinguished speakers described structural biology's past as well as current research in related fields. Close to 100 posters were presented. Travel awards were made for 35 early career scientists from around the world.
